Today Personal Assistant privacy

Updated September 7, 2026

Today is a personal task and reminder application operated by Chris Burns for his own use. It combines a private daily task list, selected Obsidian priorities, and a recent email overview.

Google account data

Today requests read-only Gmail access for accounts explicitly connected by the owner. The current application reads account identity, message identifiers, sender and subject headers, received times, and labels to display recent unread and Needs Reply messages. It does not download email bodies or attachments, send messages, create drafts, delete messages, or change mailbox settings.

Storage and use

Selected email metadata, tasks, reminder settings, device push subscriptions, and login session records are stored on the owner's server. OAuth credentials are kept in restricted files on that server so the application can check mail periodically. The application uses a password-protected interface and HTTPS.

Email metadata is used only for the owner's private overview. It is replaced on each successful mailbox refresh. Tasks and settings persist until removed or changed. Server backups may retain earlier copies. The current application does not send email data to an AI model, sell it, use it for advertising, or use it to train models.

Notifications and service providers

Google processes Gmail API and authorization requests. The owner's hosting provider operates the server infrastructure. If push notifications are enabled, the browser or device push service processes subscription information and encrypted reminder payloads. Notifications contain generic reminders rather than email subjects or client details.

Control and deletion

The owner can revoke Google access through Google Account connections, disable notifications through Today or device settings, and remove stored application data and credentials from the server. Revoking access stops future authorized Gmail access; stored data must be removed separately. Questions or deletion requests can be directed to chris@stratagengroup.com.

Today Personal Assistant's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
